About My Research
Budding Yeast Research Focus
Our research does not focus on individual genes, but on understanding how groups of proteins are implicated in cellular processes varying from cell cycle-progression to sensory hormone information processing and cell fate decisions. We use Saccharomyces cerevisiae as our model system to study these processes. Our approaches to these problems involves studying proteins in living cells at different scales of number, space and time. Thus we study proteome-wide protein-protein interactions on long time scales (several cell cycles) to quantitative spatial and temporal behavior of proteins on short (seconds) time scales. Our approaches can be applied to study the functions of any genes, but some of the focused projects that have come out of large scale studies have resulted in insights into genes that are homologues of genes implicated in human cancers (e.g. MAP kinases, Hippo kinases, Target of Rapamycin (TOR), PP2A, HRP1) and neurodegeneration (Huntingtin).
